Boswellia is a type of tree native to East Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The trunk of the Frankincense tree exudes a whitish and fragrant resin which hardens to form yellow-orange-brown “tears,” also known as resin or gum. Frankincense resin collectors make cuts in the bark to cause it to release the self-healing resin which will protect the tree. Like Myrrh, Frankincense has long been used for its aromatic benefits and is used in aromatherapy as nerve calming and to help relieve cold and cough symptoms.
