Styrax tonkinensis is a tree that can grow to a height of over 30 m, found in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Its resin, called Benzoin, is harvested by cutting the trunk. It is used in perfumery, in incense, and for medicinal purposes. Known as an odour binder, it is used to make many Oriental fragrances for both men and women because of its warm, soft, balsamic and vanilla-flavoured scent. It is also known for its antiseptic and expectorant properties.
